U.S. HISTORY  (REQUIRED)

United States History presents to students a sequential development of the settlement, growth and expansion of the territory now known as the United States from 1840 to present. A great deal of emphasis is placed on the development of study skills such as understanding the decision making process: understanding historical analysis, understanding historical synthesis, and understanding the news media.

 

HISTORY OF ARCHAEOLOGY

RGL: 11-12

PRE: None

Students will be exposed to a survey of the origin of man by examining different fossils evidence for human evolution. It will include a survey of prehistoric cultures of North America. This course will examine the progress of human knowledge and technology. Our goal is to explore local history through the examination of local resources and sites.

 

MULTI CULTURAL STUDIES/CURRENT ISSUES

RGL: 11-12

PRE: None

This course deals with the diversity of America’s ethnic groups. Students will examine the struggles, triumphs, and contributions made by these groups to American society. Students will be introduced to the critical issues confronting the nation and the world.  The course will present a wide spectrum of differing opinions on such issues as the environment, constitutional rights, crime, illegal immigration and human rights.

 

CIVICS/ECONOMICS (REQUIRED)

RGL: 11-12

PRE: None

Students will explore the American system of government and its political process. Students will gain an understanding of their roles and responsibilities in a democratic society. This course will also acquaint the student with the fundamentals of free enterprise system and explain how this system affects our lives.

 

WORLD CULTURES (REQUIRED)

RGL: 10

PRE: None

This course is a survey of the world’s diverse cultures. By examining the factors that help shape culture including religion, technology, environment, climate and history, it will provide students with an understanding of the issues of diversity.
